William Brown is a careless eleven-year-old boy who always gets into trouble. One day, he came to know that his parents will be going out to visit his aunt so, he decided to invite his friends to his house for a small party but the situation turned worse when his friend caused a lot of mess in the kitchen. Suddenly, William’s parents arrived back and they were in a state of shock. Now, William explains how a misunderstanding of a double negative leads him to throw a wild party.
Question 1: Read the line and answer the questions:
Just then, rise Jones interrupted his thoughts.
(a) What ‘thoughts’ was William having?
Answer: William thought of throwing a small party to his friends.
(b) Why did Miss Jones interrupt him?
Answer: Miss Jones interrupted William as he did not pay attention in classroom.
Question 2: Read the line and answer the questions:
They all accepted the invitation.
(a) Who accepted the ‘invitation’?
Answer: William’s friends accepted the ‘invitation’.
(b) What were ‘they’ invited to?
Answer: They were invited to the party at William’s house.

Answer: When they were turned up for the party, William broke the drawing-room window thus, helped them to enter through broken window.

Answer: William said these words to his friend.
(b) Why did the speaker think that father did not understand English Grammar?
Answer: William thought so as his father didn’t understand the concept that two negatives makes an affirmative.
Question 5: What happened in the English Grammar class?
Answer: During English grammar class, William got a scolding from his teacher for not paying attention in class as he was unable to understand the use of participle.
Question 6: When did William realize that there was no food for his guests? How did he solve the problem?
Answer: William realized that there is no food for the guest when they started feeling hungry. He solved the problem by offering them to enter pantry and eat whatever they found.
