Cypress Street Summary

In this poem, the poet is talking about Cypress Street which is named after Cypress Tree, an evergreen coniferous tree. The poet was walking down the pavement of Cypress Street and felt that it was very hot due to the sun’s heat. The poet’s great aunt Gem explained that all Cypress trees have been cut down to make use of wood and lampposts have taken the place of Cypress trees. The poet feels that a treeless street has no beauty. Therefore, it is better to change its name from ‘Cypress Street’ to ‘Lamppost Street’.
