Question 1: Choose the correct option:

Answer: Govinda sat on a rock on the bank of the Ganges in a heavenly and serene environment of hills, trees and river. The hill was surrounded by drift woods and other debris brought by the river and deposited from time to time by the overflowing river Ganges. He was deeply engrossed in reading divine scripture.

Question 3: What did Raghunath do when Govinda threw the bangles into the river? What does this tell you about Raghunath?

Answer: When Govinda threw the bangles into the river, Raghunath jumped after the bangles to retrieve them but he was not able to find them. It tells us about the materialistic nature of Raghunath. Through the poem, the poet gives us message that the true masters don’t value materialistic things but Raghunath was opposite to this.

Question 4: Explain the meanings of these phrases in your own words:

(a) Frowned the jutting bank

Answer: It means that the banks of the river are said to be frowning because the current of the river is alarmingly scary. It means that there are chances of risk along the banks of the river.

(b) The water held and hid what it stole and ran its way

Answer: This line describes about the current of the river Ganges. Govinda threw the bangles into the river. The current of the river was powerful so, when he threw the bangle, it went into the deep water and disappeared in the river.
