Answer: The narrator hoped that Todd would remember that he owed the narrator a dollar.

Question 13: How does the narrator feel about lending and borrowing money?

Answer: The narrator hasn’t got his money back from Todd, therefore, he is apprehensive about lending money. He feels that he can never forget it if someone borrows money from him. He wonders how people must be feeling if he has forgotten to return money that he might have borrowed from them. He says he would like to return all the money he has borrowed but with some conditions.

Question 14: What kind of a man was Todd?

Answer: Todd was a casual man who did not worry about little things. He borrowed money from the narrator without a thought of returning it to him. He was forgetful. He was also quite dense as he didn’t take the hint each time the narrator tried to draw his attention to the fact that he had borrowed a dollar from him. He was too caught up within himself to worry about other people.

Answer: The narrator went to pick up Todd from the station and also suggested that they take a taxi up to the Club. He did this to remind Todd about the dollar he had borrowed when he fell short of money to pay a taxi while leaving for Bermuda.

Answer: Yes, the title is justified because the story is about the dollar that was lent by the narrator to his friend, Todd who has completely forgotten to pay it back and the narrator considers it as lost for ever.

Answer: The speaker feared that there was little prospect of him getting back the dollar because he tried to make Todd remember that he owes a dollar to him in many different ways. However, he had completely forgotten about it.

Answer: Todd went to Bermuda and after three weeks, he returned. The narrator went to the station to receive him. He thought that if he would say the word ‘taxi’, he would be reminded of the borrowed dollar and he would return that dollar. However, the word ‘taxi’ did not remind Todd of the borrowed dollar. In this way, the narrator’s first effort to remind Todd of the borrowed dollar failed.
Next time, when he met Todd, he asked him about the currency used in Bermuda. He thought that the word ‘currency’ would remind Todd of the borrowed dollar. He further asked him if the American dollar was used in Bermuda. The word ‘dollar’ also did not remind Todd, of the borrowed dollar.
