Question 1: Write True or False:

(a) The quarrel was between a cat and a dog – False
(b) The quarrel grew stronger later on – True
(c) The quarrel began at night – False

Question 2: Choose the correct option:

Why did the brother thump his brother on the back?

i. because he wanted to hurt his brother/sister.
ii. because he wanted to stop quarrelling.
iii. because he was angry.

Question 3: What was the reason for the quarrel?

Answer: There was no real reason for the quarrel. The siblings were themselves not sure about why they were fighting.

Question 4: Read and answer the questions:

Answer: The poetess said this to the readers.

(b) What do you mean by ‘fell out’?

Answer: ‘Fell out’ means started to quarrel.

Answer: They fell out over a small issue and it went on from one topic to the other.

Question 5: How was the start and end of the quarrel?

Answer: The beginning of the quarrel was very light, on a small issue but the quarrel ended violently.  

Question 6: What did the speaker mean when she said “the afternoon turned black?”

Answer: It means that the whole afternoon became sad and slowly the day changed into evening. They spoilt their afternoon by quarrelling.

Question 7: Who took the initiative to end the quarrel and how did he/she do it?

Answer: The poetess’s brother took the initiative to end the quarrel as he patted his sister on her back and said that they should end the quarrel.

Answer: The brother said this to his sister.

(b) What could not go on all night?

Answer: The quarrel could not go on all night.

(c) What happened after the speaker said this?

Answer: When the speaker said this, both realized that they were fighting uselessly and they needed to make up!

Question 9: According to you, who was right and who was wrong?

Answer: According to me, no one was right or wrong. They loved each other and wanted to win over the other. All siblings fight and so did they!

(a) What was slight?

Answer: The starting of the quarrel was slight.

(b) Why was the end strong?

Answer: The end was strong because they stopped talking to each other.

(c) What did the girl feel about her brother?

Answer: The girl felt that her brother was wrong.

(d) How did the brother end up quarrel?

Answer: The brother ended up quarrel by thumping on his sister’s back.

(e) Why did the girl finally agree that her brother was right?

Answer: The girl finally agreed that her brother was right because he gave his sister a friendly pat on her back to end up the quarrel.
