Question 1: Complete the sentences:

(a) The king and most of the courtiers were impressed with the paintings that the artist had shown.
(b) Tenali Raman said that he could paint better than the artist.

Answer: Tenali Raman was not impressed with the artist’s painting because he did not find them to be good.

Question 5: What did the king tell Tenali Raman when he heard that Tenali did not like the paintings?

Answer: When the king heard that Tenali Raman did not like the paintings, he called him ‘an ignorant fool’ and said that the bits that could not be seen had to be imagined.

Answer: The courtiers sniggered behind their hands because they knew Tenali Raman could not paint.

Answer: The king got angry because he could not see anything on the canvas but only some black strokes in the corner and some grass painted below that. Tenali reminded him that it was he who said that one should imagine the bits one could not see. So, the king should also imagine that the horse was grazing just outside the canvas.
