  • Spin – to go round and round on its axis
  • Skates – a boot with wheels for gliding over ice or hard surface
  • Grasshopper – an insect with eight legs

Question 1: Read the lines and answer the questions:

And when I had seen all that I want to see,
I hope I’d know how to turn back into me.

(a) List the things that the speaker had seen.

Answer: Four things that the speaker had seen are –
i. Jungle
ii. Ocean
iii. Kangaroo
iv. Snow

(b) What does the speaker mean by ‘turn back into me’?

Answer: By ‘turn back into me’, the speaker means that he wants to be the same as he was before.

(c) Why do you think the speaker wants to ‘turn back’ into himself?

Answer: After doing these odd things the poet is satisfied and now he wants his normal life.

Answer: By this statement the speaker means that he wants to give thanks in the language spoken by kangaroos.

(b) What is meant by the word ‘Kangarooese’?

Answer: Here ‘Kangarooese’ is the language spoken by Kangaroos.

(c) Why has the poet coined this word?

Answer: The poet coined this word because he thinks this is the language of kangaroos.

Question 3: List the places where the poet wishes to go.

Answer: The poet wishes to go:
i. To the jungle
ii. In the deep snow
iii. In the ocean
iv. Through the needle hole
v. Inside the pouch of kangaroo
