Question 1: Why do you think the speaker asked the blind boy the question?
Answer: The speaker might have asked the blind boy the question as he was curious to know the little boy’s thoughts on colour – something that he had never seen.
Question 2: What did the speaker expect in answer?
Answer: The speaker might have expected the little boy to tell him that he had no idea what colour was like as he was blind and had never seen colour.
Question 3: The blind boy associates:
- Green with rustling of wind through the forest.
- Blue with running water.
- Red with a trumpet sound.
- Pink with the smell of roses.
- Purple with a thunderstorm.

Answer: The blind boy has only his imagination with which to think of colour for he has never seen any. So, he associates different colours with different objects that he feels with his other senses.

Answer: The purpose of the poet is to offer us a glimpse into the mind of a person who is blind and yet, by dint of his imagination, conjures up a world he has never seen. We often take for granted the blessings of our senses and it takes something like this to jolt us out of our comfortable cocoons and empathize with those who are not as fortunate as we are.
The poem is truly touching and moves us deeply as we become mindful of the blessings we have and makes us feel for those less fortunate than we are. We also admire the boy for not moaning or complaining about what he does not have. Instead, he gives free flight to his vivid imagination and makes us see things in a way we may never have seen them before, even though we are blessed with vision ourselves.

Answer: Green like the rustle of wind, blue like running water, red like the sound of trumpets, pink like the scent of roses, purple like thunderstorm, yellow like something soft and warm.
