Answer: On the day of the tsunami, the island boy was admiring the beautiful sight, the fabulous waves of the sea.

Question 2: Why was the Shompen boy forced to pick the island boy’s pocket?

Answer: The Shompen boy was forced to pick the island boy’s pocket because when he told the island boy that the mountain waves are coming and they should go from there but he didn’t listen to him. He knew that the island boy would run behind him to take his money pouch back. By doing this, the Shompen boy took the boy to the highest point of the hill and saved their lives.

Answer: The lines in the text that show that the island boy was an obedient son are: ‘My mother had always told me never to follow a Shompen anywhere, especially into the forest. I did not intend to disobey her.’

Answer: When the boys survived through the mountain waves and the narrator noticed that his money pouch is back in his pocket and also, there was something else in it – two black stones, which were Shompen boy’s precious fire stones. When he saw these as a gift, that’s when the speaker realised that he had misunderstood ‘him’.
