My Brother Built A Robot Questions & Answers

Question 1: Why did the poet’s brother build the robot?

Answer: The poet’s brother built the robot to help them clean their room.

Question 2: What kind of a robot did the poet’s brother build?

Answer: The poet’s brother built a robot that did not work the way he wanted it to and went wild as soon as it was made. Its eyes began to glow, emitting heat and light, while its nose began to gleam and shine. Smoke came out of its ears and it roared loudly.

Question 3: Did the robot work properly? Why or why not?

Answer: No, the robot did not work properly because it became uncontrollable and created a mess instead of helping.

Question 4: How did the robot clean the speaker’s room?

Answer: Instead of cleaning the speaker’s room, the robot ate the dust pan and attacked the poet and his brother with the broom. The robot pulled apart their pillows and also dishevelled their beds. The robot then took crayons and scribbled on their heads. He seemed to be unstoppable as he knotted their socks before going off to the kitchen.

Question 5: What did the robot do in the kitchen and in the bathroom?

Answer: The robot tied the boys’ socks in knots and threw them into the kitchen and also dismantled the pans and pots. It then clanked into the bathroom and filled the tub with sand.

Question 6: What happened when the speaker and his brother tried to disconnect the robot?

Answer: When the speaker and his brother tried to disconnect the robot, it picked up the boys and dropped them in an empty garbage pail. The speaker and his brother could not disconnect the robot as the speaker forgot to give a switch to turn it off.

Question 7: What message does the poet give through this poem?

Answer: Through this poem, the poet wants to give us a message that creativity and inventions should be made carefully, with proper control and safety.

Question 8: What could the brother have done to avoid the problem?

Answer: To avoid the problem, the brother should have tested the robot properly and added a switch or safety features before turning it on.

Question 9: Whether the poem is funny or serious? Give reasons.

Answer: The poem is funny because instead of helping, the robot behaves in a silly and unexpected way, creating chaos. There are various amusing situations like the speaker and his brother being dropped in a garbage pail and the robot drawing on their heads with crayons. But the most amusing is the line that states that the robot did not have the switch which would allow the speaker and his brother to turn it off and prevent any further damage.
