Answer: The writer asks a very innocent but valid question. She wants the whale fisherman to realize and understand what the whales feel when they are pulled out of water in a merciless manner. She wants to sensitize them about the pain and agony innocent whales go through when they are killed.

Answer: The whale hunters go into the sea where innocent whales swim and play, not expecting any wrong to happen. Suddenly they feel hurt and sharp stinging pain caused by heavy harpoons. The wounded whales are then pulled up in the whaling ship.
