Answer: Vijay Singh was a wrestler and his weakness was that he was fond of boasting. One day while sitting in the marketplace he boasted that he is not afraid of ghosts and wished he could meet a ghost one day so that he could teach him a lesson.
This boasting pushed him into an awkward situation where he was suggested to go alone to the Haunted Desert at night where can surely meet the ghosts.

Answer: The old woman was well-known for her eccentricities. On the evening when Vijay Singh was about to start his journey for the Haunted Desert, the old woman handed a small packet in Vijay Singh’s hand. On his journey when Vijay Singh opened the packet, he found an egg and a lump of salt in it. It was quite eccentric (unusual) thought Vijay Singh.
Later, we found that this eccentric gift proved to be useful to Vijay Singh in his fight against the ghost.

Answer: Vijay Singh asked the ghost disguised as Natwar to come closer as like all good wrestlers, Vijay Singh wanted to size up his enemy, which meant Vijay Singh wanted to judge the strength and size of the ghost.

Answer: When Vijay Singh took a clear and close look of the ghost, he said that you are just a plain lying ghost. The ghost was taken aback and went speechless as in general people used to run away or almost fainted whenever they use to have an encounter with a ghost, however, in this situation Vijay Singh was claiming that he wanted to meet a ghost and was brave and confident.

Question 6: How did Vijay Singh used the egg? How did he use the lump of salt?
Answer: Vijay Singh handed a piece of rock to the ghost, and asked him to squeeze it hard as it is filled with fluid. The ghost tried to squeeze the rock with both his hands, however, was unable to do it. Vijay Singh carefully took out the egg from his pocket, took the rock from the ghost and placed it between both his hands and squeezed it. The egg yolk oozed out and the ghost was stunned and believed that Vijay Singh actually squeezed the rock.
Vijay Singh then handed over another piece of rock to the ghost and asked him to crumble and crush it as it contains salt. The ghost tried again to crush the rock but failed. The ghost handed over the rock to Vijay Singh who h casually crumbled the lump of salt and let the stone drop in the darkness.
Both the episodes proved that Vijay Singh was victorious and more powerful than the ghost.
Question 7: Why did Vijay Singh conclude that the ghost would not be a worthy opponent to him? Was he fair in his judgement?
Answer: As the ghost was not able fulfill any of the challenges thrown by Vijay Singh, he concluded that the ghost would not be a worthy opponent to him. However, Vijay Singh was not fair in his judgement as he played tricks to complete the challenges to prove himself more powerful than the ghost.
Question 8: Why did Vijay Singh ask the ghost to accompany him to town next day?
Answer: Vijay Singh wanted to boast again in front of his people that he has outwitted the ghost and claimed victory even in fight with the ghost. Vijay Singh wanted the ghost to accompany him to his town as his prisoner and as a trophy of his victory over the ghost.
Question 9: What made the ghost believe Vijay Singh was dead?
Answer: The ghost planned to kill Vijay Singh in the middle of night and struck the bolster (the rounded pillow) which he thought to be Vijay Singh with a thick club. When there was no sound or groan after the beating, the ghost smiled and happily thought that Vijay Singh was dead.
Question 10: Vijay Singh complained of insects in the cave. What was he referring to and why?
Answer: The ghost hit seven times with his club on the bolster thinking it to be Vijay Singh. When Vijay Singh woke up, he complained of insects in his cave and that one of the insects flapped his wings seven times. He was sarcastically referring them to the seven blows of club that ghost struck at night.
Vijay Singh commented this to show that his blows were as powerless as the flap of an insect and that he’s much more powerful than the ghost.
