Answer: The monkey was happy living in the fruit tree, but his happiness was not complete. He had plenty to eat, however, had no company. He felt lonely and wanted to have a companion to whom he can talk and share fruits.

Question 2: What did the two friends generally talk about?

Answer: The two friends, the monkey and the crocodile, generally talked about birds and animals, about the villages nearby and the difficulties villagers faced in raising good crops due to lack of rain.

Question 3: Why was the crocodile’s wife annoyed with her husband one day?

Answer: One day, the crocodile stayed with the monkey longer than the usual. His wife was annoyed as she kept waiting and had to manage the little crocodiles all alone.

Question 4: Why was the crocodile unwilling to invite his friend home?

Answer: The crocodile’s wife wanted to have monkey’s heart however, the crocodile knew the value of friendship and did not want to betray his friend monkey. Hence, he refused to invite his friend home and shouted angrily at his wife.

Answer: When the crocodile reached midstream, he could no longer hide his intentions and revealed his evil plan to the monkey saying that he has to go under water now, so that he can kill the monkey and take his heart to crocodile’s wife for the meal.

He calmly said that he would do anything for crocodile and his family, however, unfortunately he did not bring his heart along with him and had left it on the tree where he lived. The foolish crocodile thought it to be true and swam back to the river bank along with monkey to get his heart. The monkey immediately jumped to the tree and thus, saved himself.

Answer: The crocodile was sad on losing a good friend and was wise enough to understand the reason behind the same. He would have told his wife about the entire episode and how her greed ruined his relationship with the monkey.
