Answer: It is not possible to draw large areas on a sheet of paper. Therefore, the size of the areas is reduced while showing them on a map. This is done with the help of a scale.
For example – 100 km = 1 cm. can be shown on a map.

Answer: Different colors are used in a map because they depict various natural features on the map. The blue color indicates water bodies, green color shows forest and grass, mountains and hills are shown in brown color.
(b) Ancient people followed the path of ‘Dhruv Tara’ or Pole Star.
Answer: ‘Dhruv Tara’ is a fixed and shining star. It always points in the North direction and people can locate it without a compass.
