Answer: Ling did not have any plant because the seed was boiled one which would not grow.

Answer: The courage and honesty of Ling’s quality is reflected in this incident. It was rewarded the emperor’s throne.

Answer: Ling thought that he was a failure because six months went by, still nothing has grown in his pot.

Answer: Ling’s mother advised him to go with his empty pot and to be honest about what has happened.

Answer: Ling chose to stay behind everyone with his pot because everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing.

Answer: Ling was terrified when the emperor called him to the front because he thought that the emperor knows that he is a failure and maybe he will have him killed.

Answer: The emperor was surprised to see the plants brought by the other youths because he gave everyone boiled seed which would not grow.

Answer: The emperor was looking for in his successor the qualities of truthfulness and honesty.

Answer: This tells us that the emperor wanted a courageous and honest person to inherit his throne.
Question 9: What was the difference between Ling and the other youths? Discuss with respect to their acts and their qualities.
Answer: Only Ling was honest and other youths were dishonest. The emperor had given to all boiled seeds which would not grow. But except Ling all have brought trees and plants and flowers. Other youths substituted another seed for the one that emperor gave them.
