Composed by Spike Milligan, the poem is about a lion who has stopped eating meat and has become a vegetarian animal. It does not roar anymore but only tweets like a bird. The lion used to be furious and violent and killed animals but now he feels sick on viewing blood.

In this stanza, the poet has created an innocent image of the cruel animal. He says that the lion doesn’t pierce into any animal’s skin anymore. This is because the lion thinks that it causes excessive bleeding and develops germs.

The lion used to be violent and furious and used to kill animals. However, now, just the sight of blood makes him feel sick or ill.

The lion once attacked an elephant by jumping straight at its head and thereafter, it was hospitalized for three days on the jungle’s hospital bed.
Stanza – 5
After the incident which made the lion hospitalized for three days, it became vegetarian. Now, it only eats carrots as these carrots remain still whenever, the lion pounces or attacks on them.
