Tom Takes The Tick To School Questions & Answers

Question 1: Describe the dreary noon and the effect it had on Tom.

Answer: The dreary noon was very silent. There was no breeze. Everything seemed to be very still. There was only a dull murmur of the twenty-five students studying in the classroom. It was hot outside and only a few birds could be seen in the air. No other living creature was visible except some cows that were sleeping. All this made Tom feel bored and sleepy.

Question 2: What did Tom see in the flaming sunshine? How did he feel?

Answer: Tom saw Cardiff Hill that was soft and green shining in the heat and tinted with purple at a distance. He also saw few birds flying in the sky and some cows sleeping. Tom wanted to be free like these creatures or else have something more interesting to do.

Question 3: What came out of Tom’s pocket? What was inside it?

Answer: The percussion cap box came out of Tom’s pocket. There was a tick inside it.

Question 4: Who’s gratitude was premature and why?

Answer: The Tick’s gratitude was premature because it thought it had been set free and started to crawl away. Tom turned it around with a pin and made him take a new direction.

Question 5: Who was Tom’s bosom friend? Describe the kind of friendship they shared in a sentence.

Answer: Joe Harper was Tom’s bosom friend. Joe Harper and Tom are classmates and close friends and they enjoy going on adventures.

Question 6: What made Tom lose patience and break the rule of the game?

Answer: Tom lost patience and broke the rule of the game because the tick was on Joe’s side for a longer time and as per rule, none would interfere when the tick was on the other person’s side.

Question 7: What does the story tell you about Tom’s character? In what ways was he different from Joe Harper?

Answer: The story tells us that Tom is an impatient and dominating person. Joe does not break rules of the game as Tom does. He is more patient, good natured and easy-going.

Question 8: Read the lines and answer the questions:

1. The sport grew in interest momently.

(a) Who were playing the sport mentioned here?

Answer: Tom Sawyer and his best friend Joe Harper were playing the sport mentioned here.

Answer: The sport was to poke the tick with a pin and stop it from going away.

(d) What solution was suggested for the problem?

Answer: Tom put Joe’s slate on the desk and drew a line down the middle of it from top to bottom. So, now as long as the tick was on whoever’s side, that person would stir it and the other would let him alone. But if one lets it get away to other person’s side, then the first person has to leave him alone.

(e) Did the sport continue smoothly after that?

Answer: Yes, for some time, it did but later when Tom got impatient, there was an argument between the two friends.
