Answer: The girls were in the home. It was early morning.

Answer: The basket containing the Christmas presents was hidden under the sofa because they were meant to be a surprise for the girls’ mother.

Answer: ‘said in chorus’ mean spoke all together.

Question 4: Who all were part of the procession?

Answer: Meg, Jo, Beth. Amy, their mother Mrs March and Hannah were part of the procession.

Answer: Mrs Hummel called the girls ‘good angels’ because they had come to help her and her children.

Jo said they were ‘funny angels’ because angels are not usually depicted wearing hoods and mittens.

Answer: It is common practice to think about one’s own welfare before thinking about anyone else’s. Meg’s comment means that by giving the hungry children their breakfast, the girls had put their neighbours’ needs ahead of their own.

Answer: Mrs. March is a kind, helpful, compassionate woman who went out of her way to help others in need.

Question 12: Do you think the March sisters are selfish or generous? Give reasons for your answer.

Answer: The March sisters are generous because they happily gave up their favourite breakfast for Mrs Hummel’s hungry children. Moreover, they decided to use their pocket money to buy a present each for their mother, instead of buying presents for each other.

Question 13: The main idea, message or moral of a story is its theme. What do you think is the theme of the story?

Answer: The theme of the story is the spirit of generosity and compassion for people.

Question 14: What are some ways in which you can celebrate a festival in a way that benefits others and makes you happy too?

Answer: We can celebrate the festivals by spreading love and brotherhood towards others.
