Answer: The second merchant observed that the leaves of trees only on the left side of the road were eaten, so he concluded the animal could not see with his right eye.

(c) Short tail

Answer: The third merchant saw drops of blood on the road from small insect bites, so he knew that the animal’s tail was too short to chase away insects.
