Answer: The Greeks prepared for the final attack by planning to trick the Trojans. They built a huge, hollow, wooden horse fitted with a trapdoor. Odysseus and Menelaus persuaded the bravest of the Greek soldiers to climb into the belly of the wooden horse. As night fell, the remaining soldiers burnt their camp and pretended to sail back to Greece. In the morning, the Trojans found the enemy camp in ashes and a huge wooden horse on the shore. They thought it to be a peace offering made by the war-weary Greeks. They dragged the horse through the city and started celebrating the end of the long war.

After much feasting and celebration, the exhausted Trojans fell into a deep sleep that night. A Greek soldier, who was hiding on the beach, sent signals to Agamemnon and the whole fleet dove shoreward. At the same time, the Greek soldiers inside the wooden horse opened the trap door and came out. They opened the city gates wide and the Greek army entered Troy. In the final battle that followed, the Trojans were defeated and the city was looted and burned to ashes.
