Question 1: Where is Mrs Daisuke’s newspaper stall?

Answer: Mrs Daisuke’s stall is at the Shibuya train station.  

Question 2: Why did Rei Chan get scared? Did she remain scared for long? Why?

Answer: Rei Chan got scared because a golden brown animal whizzed past her. No, she did not remain scared of him for long because she had befriended Hachiko.

Question 3: Why do you think Rei Chan was surprised to see Hachiko’s behaviour?

Answer: Rei Chan was surprised to see Hachiko’s behaviour because she had not expected to see such deep love between a pet dog and a human being – between him and Dr. Ueno.

Question 4: Why does Rei Chan say, Little did I know that I was going to see this lovely reunion every day for many many months?

Answer: Rei Chan said so because Hachiko always waited patiently at Shibuya Station every day for his owner, Dr Ureno. Rei Chan had seen a lovely interaction between the two in front of their newspaper stall.

Question 5: Do you think Hachiko knew his master would not return on the evening of 21 May 1925? Why do you think so?

Answer: I think Hachiko knew his master would not return on the evening of 21 May 1925 because that day Hachiko was not interested in the usual games. When the time for Dr Ureno’s return got closer, Hachiko stood up alertly, staring at the door.

Question 6: Did Rei Chan want to leave Hachiko alone on the night of 21 May 1925? How do you know?

Answer: Rei Chan did not want to leave Hachiko alone on the night of 21 May 1925 because he waited for Dr Ureno along with Hachiko. However, when his grandmother called him for going home, he said to her that Dr Ureno had not come back from his work sinking his arm into Hachiko’s warm coat but he could not let her walk alone the long distance to home.
