Answer: Jammu and Kashmir is located in Northern India and shares its borders with the states of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.

Answer: Jammu and Kashmir comprises of three regions – Jammu, the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh; each distinct from the other in geography, demography and attraction. Jammu has famous shrines that attract pilgrims every year whereas Srinagar is well known for its majestic mountains. Ladakh, on the other hand, is known as ‘Little Tibet’ and is popular for its arid mountainous beauty.

Answer: Kashmiri cuisine and culture have Central Asian and Persian influences. Kashmiri culture is a fusion of Roman, Greek and Persian civilisations which is widely seen in the appearance, dress, food habits, customs, speech and traditions of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The Kashmiri feast or multi course meal is known as ‘Wazwan’. The word ‘Wazwan’ is derived from two words ‘waz’ or ‘cooking’ and ‘wan’ or ‘shop’.

Answer: Kashmiri men and women carry a kangar or kangri under their pheran. A kangri is a traditional earthen fire-pot woven around the wicker, filled with hot ambers to keep the body warm. The kangri is decorated with colourful threads, mirror works and sequins and is about six inches in size.
