Answer: The child was sitting outside in the dust.

Answer: The child was playing with a broken twig.

Question 3: Which activities was the poet busy in?

Answer: The poet was busy in adding up figures, while doing his accounts.

Question 4: What has the poet forgotten?

Answer: The poet has forgotten the art of getting absorbed in the play of sticks and mud-pies.

Question 5: What did the poet struggle to cross?

Answer: The poet struggled to cross the sea of his desires, in his weak canoe.

Question 6: What do you understand by the phrase ‘the sea of desire’?

Answer: Every grown-up man seeks many desires and keeps roaming on his weak boat, trying to fulfil all the desires that are a never-ending sea.

Answer: The poet is sad because he knows that he is running behind things he will never be satisfied with.

Question 8: Why is the poet saying that he has forgotten he is playing a game?

Answer: The poet is saying that he has forgotten that he is playing a game because according to him, life is a game which everyone needs to play.
